Another reason to exercise during pregnancy

According to The Endocrine Society, the in-utero environment can affect a baby’s growth trajectory in postnatal life.

A new study, set for publication in the May issue of the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism (JCEM), finds that when expectant moms participate in aerobic exercise of moderate intensity, a modest reduction in birth weight can occur.

Recent evidence suggests that high birth weight may be associated with obesity in childhood.

It’s the first study to show a significant effect of non-weight bearing exercise, such as stationary cycling, on birth weight.
